Undyed Fabric by the Yard

Our undyed fabric is woven in Turkey and sold by the yard (1 yard = 92 cm), in widths from 150 cm to 250 cm (59 to 98 in). It is unbleached and finished with a simple wash, with no dye, optical brightener or coating, so it takes natural dyes evenly. Choose from wide cotton, cotton-linen, linen-cotton, 2-layer cotton gauze, crinkle gauze, waffle, canvas and traditional Şile cotton.

Which fabric for which project?

  • Clothing: gauze, muslin and cotton-linen for breathable garments.
  • Home textiles: waffle, canvas and wide cotton-linen for towels, cushions and curtains.
  • Eco printing: smooth cotton and cotton-linen show leaf prints in fine detail.

Preparing undyed fabric

Scour the fabric with soda ash to remove any remaining starch, then mordant with a tannin and alum before dyeing. Plan for some shrinkage when you scour.

Is this fabric PFD (prepared for dyeing)?

Yes. It is undyed and untreated, finished with only a wash, so it is ready for scouring and natural dyeing.

How is the fabric sold?

By the yard: 1, 2 or 3 yards (92, 183 or 274 cm), cut in one continuous piece.
