Madder Root Powder

Madder root powder (Rubia tinctorum) is one of the oldest and most trusted natural red dyes. Our roots are grown in Turkey's Aegean region, harvested only after at least three years when their alizarin content reaches optimal levels, shade-dried to protect pigment strength, and finely ground at Themazi. The result is a high-quality powder with rich, stable and vibrant red tones.

What colors can you get with madder root?

Soft pinks, warm reds, deep brick tones and dark burgundy, depending on your mordant and technique. Lighter shades can be achieved without a mordant. For deeper, more complex colors, use alum, tannin or iron as modifiers.
